Pelvic Organ Prolapse
Prolapse—among the most dreaded conditions associated with childbirth, aging and menopause—regardless of the cause, the sensation is alarming. Perhaps you have felt a “bulge down there” or you may have touched it or have seen extra tissue at the opening of the vagina. So what next? At Madrona PT, we understand exactly what you’re dealing with—and we are committed to helping you regain your pelvic health. Our clinicians will provide an evaluation of the pelvic floor and pelvic organs to help you determine your next steps—whether that means surgery or a less-invasive treatment plan—rest assured, we’ve seen the full spectrum, and we’re not going to waste your time and money prescribing treatments that have no chance of helping you.
Treatment Without Surgery
About 70% of women who come to us with pelvic organ prolapse are good candidates for non-surgical treatments—either because of their mild to moderate prolapse, or due to a strong aversion to the surgery itself. Let’s be honest with each other right away—this is not a quick-fix type of issue. Your pelvic health therapist will guide you along a journey to strengthen your pelvic floor, core and pelvic girdle, and may include the use of bio-feedback technology, ultrasound, and a removable silicon brace, called a pessary. Together, we will work to improve your prolapse condition into one that is manageable—or symptom free—and help you regain your pelvic health.
